All-State Results

Congrats to the following students who were selected by individual audition to be a member of one of the 2011 Alabama All-State Choirs.

SSAA: Katy Carter-A1, Tiffany Burgett-A1, Amanda Thomas-S2
TTBB: Grady Bannister-B1, Isaiah Crawford-T2
SATB: Parker Cantrell-T1, Miles Jenkins-T1, Dylan McCombs-T2

There were more students to audition this year (especially Sop's) than in years past, over 2000 across the state! So, there was very stiff competition! A big kudos to all that went through the audition process, as it is a fantastic learning experience.

Just in time for holiday cooking!!!

Mr. Rob Harper, Executive for Children's Hospital, will be hosting a cooking demo/class on Sat. November 13, from 10:30am-12:00pm. Mr. Harper will "mock prepare" the menu below, answering questions and discussing the processes involved. Then, all in attendance will sample the dishes he has prepared. Tickets are $15/person and can be purchased from any choir member. Limited seating. Call Mrs. Heron if any questions. Spread the word!!
MENU: Grilled Portabello Mushrooms over Baby Greens topped with a Balsamic Vinaigrette Salpicon

Christmas Wreath Fundraiser

For those going on the Spring Trip, we will be selling as a fundraiser live wreaths from the Pacific Northwest. These will be pre-sold, so be looking for the forms to come home in the next week.

Cheesecake/Cookie Dough Delivery

Parents, The cheesecake and cookie dough items will be delivered on THURSDAY, OCT 21st. Please make plans to pick up your child's orders and deliver promptly. Remember, these items are frozen so they don't need to sit for hours in the choir room! Monies will be collected as you deliver the items.

Cheesecake/Cookie Dough Fundraiser

Order forms for the cheesecake/cookie dough/loaf cakes are due THIS THURSDAY (9-23-10) to Mrs. Heron. Remember, the money is not due now, as it will be collected when the merchandise is delivered (that will be mid-October). Every student is encouraged to sell their "fair share" of ten items. Many will go above and beyond the call of duty, but everyone please try to sell at least ten!

Welcome Back!

Summer is over and I am THRILLED already, as I have heard some great things from the students in each of the choirs! I am certain that this year will be packed out with some stellar performances and great memories!

Please bring the signed form from the back of your Choral Handbook to me by Monday (8-16), and make sure to get your forms from your MJ Student handbook signed to return to your first block teachers.

I hope all of you are excited about this year. Come each day with a positive attitude and an eagerness to become a better musician and student and life will bring much joy!

Rhythmx to sing at the University of Alabama

The men's ensemble Rhythmx will be performing at the University of Alabama on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 7:30pm in the Recital Hall. Check out this article in the Crimson Tide newspaper.

STATE FESTIVAL CHAPERONES

Parents,
We will be taking both the Chamber and Concert Choirs to State Performance Adjudication Festival on Friday, March 26th. We need at leat 6 chaperones to ride the busses with us. We will leave the school at 8:00am and return at 1:00pm, stopping for lunch on the way back to school.
Please let me know if you can help us out. The more, the merrier!
